This week we conquered new information and we have been showing our knowledge! Since we had an issue doing our warm ups these are now for a grade and will continue to do this through the semester.
We have gone over acceleration and freefall this week. To experiment with our freefall concept we spend a few days researching and constructing our egg drop device! We dropped all your skillfully crafted devices and ALL the eggs survived! I never doubted any of you but it is amazing we had a 100% success rate! When we come back Monday we are going to reflect and write on this experiment. This will be a large part of your grade for this lab. Make sure you put thought into this report. After that we will go into horizontal motion and we will bring along our new gravity term with us! Thank you for another great week and I look forward to the next! This week we conquered new information and we have been showing our knowledge! Since we had an issue doing our warm ups these are now for a grade and will continue to do this through the semester.
We learned about our biomolecules and enzymes through interviewing each other and very cold labs. We were able to go through this information with all of you guys gaining an amazing understanding of it. With our test today you rocked it! This will help us build on our beginning cell unit, as we go into more technical processes next week. Next week we will learn all about all the cells through stations and creating our own lab. This upcoming week we will take two days to design, carry out and analyze a lab of your own. You will be testing the rate of osmosis and manipulating variables to get the data you need. I am so glad I was able to have another great week with you all. And as always I look forward to the next one! We have wrapped up our first unit of the year! This has been torturous for some students, dealing with being back in school. The first unit will always be rough, you have to get used to a new teacher new content new everything! But I know this first unit will not define us, we are complex organisms who always change!
We just took our Ecology Test, we got familiar with the world we live in and the interactions within it. We knew about our cycles and graphing. But this week we incorporated succession and human impact. To get into the knowledge more we used hands on activities and our creativity to learn! Our succession card sort helped organize our thoughts and made a timeline for us to reference. Human impact is such a large subject we split it up amongst groups and tackled individual topics. Our dodecahedrons give us all we should know about how we impact our mother earth! Next week we will start looking into the most basic unit of life! Cells! We will learn about the 4 basic biomolecules and enzymes. This is a short section with a test over it this upcoming Friday! I look forward to delving into our most simple forms with you! We have wrapped up our first unit of the year! This has been torturous for some students, dealing with being back in school. The first unit will always be rough, you have to get used to a new teacher new content new everything! But I know this first unit will not define us, we are complex organisms who always change!
We have finished our intro to motion and kinetics, we got familiar with our simple equations but now we have more variables and situations to calculate. We had our first test on Wednesday, this showed some that they need to work on and develop their equation skills, or simply take advantage of class time. This upcoming week we will start getting into our Big 4 Kinematics Equations, free fall and horizontal motion. We are still pulling and chugging so its nothing we cant handle! I look forward to teaching you and learning along the way as well! We are halfway done with the first month of school! And in that time great strides have been made. Next week will be our first test, this will be a time to reflect on how you have been participating in class and how effectively you have been completing your work.
We started to get into graphing this week but our focus before the test will be on developing our interpretation and analysis skills in relation to our graphs. We will be graph masters, as we are speed and displacement masters already! If you haven't already, do the extra practice and problems you might have skipped in your Kinematics 1 packet. This will help you get to the mastery level for our word problems. After our test we will move in to 2-D motion, and we will be able to carry everything else we have learned with us! We are halfway done with the first month of school! And in that time great strides have been made. Next week will be our first test. This will be a time to reflect on how you have been participating in class and how effectively you have been completing your work.
With our second week of ecology we will work with designing solutions. We will start a human impact project that will have us define an issue and design a solution. I was able to see all of the creativity you guys have so I am super excited to see how these turn out! Remember our test will be the 20th. Make sure you’ve taken time to do your work thoroughly and ask questions when you have them! We will have our classwork check on the 17th, so make sure you have your assignments done! Our first week back has been a success! I have enjoyed starting to learn about all of you and I hope you are enjoying the beginnings of science! This week we have gone over the basics we need in order to succeed.
Nature of science is what fueled our learning, we need to know 'how to science' before we do the science! We conquered the CER, know what a good experiment is, how to apply SEPs to our learning and what makes living things living! This upcoming week we will be getting into our first unit, Ecology. Ecology -
We will start our ecology unit with learning about our cycles, food webs and populations. With more information to come the week after! Our goal to test over this unit will be August 20th, but we will be ecology masters by then. I have had an amazing first week with all of you and I look forward to the next one. Our first week back has been a success! I have enjoyed starting to learn about all of you and I hope you are enjoying the beginnings of science! This week we have gone over the basics we need in order to succeed.
Our Pretest scores will help us see how much we have grown and learned this unit and I know there will be tremendous growth from all of you! We were able to tackle metric conversions, scientific notation, new vocabulary and scalar vs vectors all this week! This upcoming week we will start to write vectors, play with speed, velocity and graphing it. All of this will be based in your packets. Remember you have a folder in class to keep it if need be! I have had an amazing first week with all of you and I look forward to the next one. We hope you are all excited for physics this semester! We will learn about the world we live in and how it works. Ever wonder why you go forward when breaking in a car? Or why certain radio stations can't reach you? We will find out more than you realize!
We look forward to an amazing class with you all! -Ms. Francis and Mr. Johnson I hope you all are excited for a semester full of biology! We will be going over life itself! From cells, bodily processes and all the way up to organisms themselves! I look forward to a semester of curiosity and learning.
